Executive Chairman, The Bosphorus Energy Club | Mehmet is an internationally recognized personality on energy and natural resources investment and geopolitical risks. Based in London, Paris and Istanbul, his regional outreach over the past 30 years includes high-level government, business and public diplomacy engagements in Turkey, Central Asia, Caspian, China, the Middle East, the Gulf and Africa. Currently, he chairs Global Resources Corporation, UK, is an independent nonexecutive director on the boards of Genel Energy and Yasar Holding Group, and Special Envoy for MENA and Asia-Pacific regions of the Energy Charter in Brussels. Mehmet was a former diplomat, having served in Ankara, Beijing, Brussels and Paris, and worked as an advisor to the late Turkish Prime Minister, Turgut Özal. He served as a senior staffer at the International Energy Agency heading Asia-Pacific and Latin America programme and the OECD in Paris managing international investment programmes including for MENA, Emerging Asia, Africa and Central Asia regions over a period of 12 years. Until 2011, Mehmet was global director for BG Group, one of the world’s largest natural gas and petroleum multinationals, managing high-level government engagements in support of the company’s assets and new business development around the world.

A graduate of the Istanbul Technical University with a degree in electrical engineering, Mr. Taner Yıldız was elected a member of parliament representing Kayseri, his home town, in 2002.
Mr. Yıldız previously worked for the Kayseri Electricity Generation Company where he became general manager and a board member. After entering parliament, he served as an energy advisor to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and, since May 2009, has been Turkey’s minister of energy and natural resources.
In addition to effectively addressing domestic energy challenges and mobilizing critical investments, he has led the crafting and implementation of an intense energy diplomacy strategy involving critical deals and partnerships with Russia, Iran, Iraq, Azerbaijan, China, Japan, the East Mediterranean, the MENA and Gulf regions, and the EU.

Aspen Institute | Mircea is the president of the Aspen Institute Romania and a prominent political figure in Romania. He has served as president of the Romanian Senate, Romanian minister of foreign affairs, chairman of the Social Democratic Party, and ambassador to the U.S. Mr. Geoana also served as the OSCE chairman in office, and was the personal representative of the OSCE chairman in office for Georgia.
He is the founding member and president of the Aspen Institute Romania and a member of the boards of the Aspen Institute US, Aspen Italia, and Aspen Germany, as well as being the chairman and founding member of the National Development Committee public policy think tank and chairman and founding member of the Romania Noastra (Our Romania) civic platform.
Mircea is an expert on European and trans-Atlantic integration and author of various articles on that subject. He has also been a NATO fellow. He has lectured on foreign policy, transitional economies, and globalisation at major universities and think tanks, and is the author of several books on Romanian policy and the Romanian social model.
An alumnus of the Polytechnic Institute and the Law School at the University of Bucharest, Mr. Geoana graduated from the Ecole Nationale d’Administration in Paris, France. He holds a Ph.D. in world economy from the Economic Studies Academy of Bucharest.

Ünal was born on 2nd of May 1941 in Istanbul. He graduated from Galatasaray High School and got his Diploma in 1961.
In the University, he had his Law degree in 1968 from Switzerland – Neuchatel Law Faculty with his thesis about International Treaties. The same year he also passed the equivalence examinations of the Istanbul Law Faculty and got a Turkish Law Degree also.
He established UNIT INTERNATIONAL S.A. – BRUSSELS in 1974. In the first ten years of period, UNIT was active with iron and steel manufactured and industrial products sale and petrol swap operations. From 1984 onwards, UNIT specialized in electricity production and turnkey power plant construction and non recourse financing of energy and tourism projects.
Ünal besides being the main Partner and Chief Executive Officer (Chairman of the Board of Directors) of 46 autochthonous and foreign companies that constitute the Unit Group, is an active member of various NGO’s.
Ünal was honoured to receive in 2000 the High Merit Medal by the President of the Republic of Turkey, according to an approval of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Turkey, for being one of the businessmen representing Turkey abroad at the highest level. He was honoured to receive in October 2012, Leopold II High Appreciation Medal by the Belgium King H.E Albert II.

Sheikh Mohamed Ahmed J. Althani is a former minister of economy and trade in Qatar.
He previously spent over seventeen years working in the oil and gas industry, mainly with Qatar Petroleum, RasGas, and QatarGas. His main activities now are related to consulting, energy research, and the GCC political economy, regarding which he is a visiting fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic studies.
He is a board member of the London Business School global advisory board and a visiting board member of the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He holds a B.A.A. in industrial management and supervision from Central Michigan University, a Global MBA from Duke University, and completed the senior executive programme at the London Business School. He worked as an engineer on the North Sea in Scotland for the British National Oil Company.
He was also a senior engineer for an exploration consultancy and he was the proprietor and director of DUK, a limited liability UK engineering and services firm and worked as an engineer in the Iraqi National Oil Company in Basra.

Fuad is a graduate of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy and the Business School at the University of Texas, holds degrees of the Japan Center for International Finance and the Joint Vienna Institute of the IMF.

He was Group Chief Executive of BP from 2007 to 2010 having joined BP in 1982 as a rig geologist in the North Sea. He became Group Treasurer in 2000, Chief Executive for BP’s upstream activities and member of the Main Board of BP in 2003.
In June 2011 Tony founded Vallares plc, a $2.2bn acquisition company listed on the London Stock Exchange, He became Chief Executive of Genel Energy plc in November 2011 following the merger of Vallares plc and Genel Energy International, the largest oil producer in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. In August 2015 Tony was appointed Chairman of Genel Energy.
Tony is Chairman of Glencore, a Partner of AEA Investors and Chairman of CompactGTL. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, a visiting Professor in the School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh, a member of the International Advisory Board of Birmingham University and chairs Aston University Development Board. In addition he is a member of the British Museum’s Chairman’s Advisory Board and a member of the Development Advisory Board of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

He is currently among other things a Partner with Burson Marsteller Norway, an Associate Fellow at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute in Norway and part-time Professor at the TERI University in New Delhi, India.
He was Norway’s Ambassador to Japan (2009-2014), to Austria and the UN Organisations in Vienna (2002-2003), to India (1995-1999) and to the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris ( 2000-2002 and 1989-1994).
His former international positions include serving as the first Secretary General of the International Energy Forum (IEF) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (2003-2007) and as Chairman of the Governing Board of the IEA (2000-2003).

Patrick was appointed as the CEO of Rolls-Royce in Turkey in April 2012. In his role, he is responsible for the total regional business performance of Rolls-Royce’s four sectors: civil aerospace, defense, marine, and energy, including its nuclear business. Prior to this assignment, he was the CEO for Vietnam and established a permanent Rolls-Royce presence in that emerging economy. He was also a Regional Director for North America in Rolls-Royce’s marine business segment, where he was instrumental in the rapid growth of the North American subsidiary and established Rolls-Royce as a leading provider of power systems in the US. He has been with Rolls-Royce for 11 years, preceded by a 22 year career with the US Navy.
