It is a real pleasure to present my candidacy to the insightful and well-appreciated initiative: Young Leaders in Energy. I see it as a mission, coming from Israel, to represent my country and hopefully encourage other young potential energy leaders to participate in the future events. It is remarkably important to perform full partnership with all our geographical neighbors across the Mediterranean. Partnership of sharing ideas, thoughts, notions and taking part in energy discussions with other industry’s peers such as myself in order to make this sector in our region as transparent as possible. Its time we put aside geopolitical confrontation or misunderstanding and focus on collaborating together as one unit.

BORA BÜYÜK

I am an industrial engineer, got my degree from Middle East Technical University. Then I have attended Koç University and made an Executive MBA. My professional career started as a system analyst in a software development house and continued for one year. Military duty was an obligatory but a convenient break to criticize my future. Then I decided to pursue a career in energy sector and started by selling natural gas (NG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) in domestic market. The company I worked for had import, wholesale and transmission licenses for NG and LNG. That experience gave me a chance to observe how crucial NG and LNG were as a commodity for both consumers and governments.

After attending Koc School in Istanbul I have finished my Bachelors of Electrical Engineering at Jacobs University last summer and am currently doing my second internship with Daimler AG in Stuttgart, Germany in the field of Organizational Development. I would love to be given the opportunity of being a part of the Young Leaders in Energy program as I believe one of the most pushing issues we face in the contemporary world is the imbalance of industrial development and natural resources, making energy an immensely central topic in the process of innovation of the modern world as well as a very important geopolitical factor. My academic focus on renewable energy methods and my work in the automotive industry made me see only a minority of the very complex mechanisms that control the energy industry, which is one of the most relevant topics to me as a newly establishing professional. Therefore I am very enthusiastic about having a chance to understand these issues in a deeper level and the possibility to share my knowledge and contribute to a not only idealistic but a realistic solution, through this opportunity.

I am writing this letter to be one of the participants of “Young Leaders in Energy” programme of Bosphorus Energy Club. In this context a philosophical introduction, personal information and then views and expectations related to the Young Leaders in Energy Programme will be shared in this letter. “There is no alternative” and “either we do what I decide or we do what I decide ” these are the mottos that my generation very well remembers. However the understandings that claims no other choices, did not bring any solutions to fundamental problems. From a philosophic point, I always look for an alternative view while evaluating issues. Because these approaches with two sides never provide any innovative and effective solutions.
I was born in Ankara in 1985. Following my bachelor’s degree in Ankara University International Relations Department (GPA: 3.50), I studied in METU Eurasia Studies between 2009 and 2012 (GPA:3.77) and wrote my thesis on Russian Energy Policy between 2000 and 2012 .
