BİRAND ARDIÇ

After graduating from Purdue University with a degree on Industrial Engineering, based on a decision process following humankind’s basic needs, I have set my eyes on the energy industry. To explain the process for deciding on humankind’s basic needs briefly; the essentials needed to keep our existence on this earth in my opinion are; food, medicine and energy. All are “must have” industries to a world that would be less colorful without the others.Out of these three, energy seemed like the perfect fit for me as an individual who is an industrial engineer with a focus on economy and planning.
In my opinion Turkey is located strategically advantageous position connecting Europe, Russia and the Middle East. This was the main reason why I have immediately returned to Turkey after graduating from college.

BULUT YILDIRIM

With this letter, I hereby would like to state my motivation to attend “Young Leaders in Energy” programme organized by the “Bosphorus Energy Club” on 9 December 2015 in Istanbul. I have been informed about this programme via the announcement mail sent by Özgür Umut EROĞLU (CEO and Vice Chairman of the Board at GAMA Power Systems) I am currently working in Kazan, RUSSIA in the Power Plant project of “390 MW Modernization of Kazanskaya CHPP-3 on the basis of GTU” as a Civil Engineer. This project is my second project in Energy Sector (Power Plants) and I can say that I have always been interested in specializing in energy sector. Working in Power Plant projects have different difficulties for EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) companies and their subcontractors. I experienced the difficulties of working in the subcontractor companies in my first project, and now I am working in the EPC Company (GAMA Power Systems) experiencing design procedures, execution of construction works (with mechanical and electrical aspects) and complete deliveries of electro mechanic equipments. I am trying to experience how different type of jobs are done by working closely with every department and having more responsibilities as much as possible.

BURAK ATOM OKUMUŞ

My name is Burak Atom Okumuş, i am an Energy Systems Engineer and an entrepreneur, by heart. I graduated form Kadıköy Anatolian High School and then studied Energy Systems Engineering at Bahcesehir University with full scholarship.
I was born into a family office of engineers which happens to be the pioneer in the Environmental Technologies sector in Turkey. As a matter of fact, my family business has been established as Çevtaş Çevre Teknolojileri A.Ş in 1985, the Ministry of Environment of Turkey has been established in 1992.
Early on, I was lucky to observe the comfort that the family businesses provided to their second generations which eventually served as a barrier to the development of the those new undertakers. Therefore, instead of having been presented a 30+ year old company without actually experiencing how brutal and challenging the real world can be, i decided to give myself a chance to really grow and toughen outside the family nest as my not equally fortunate future competitiors forcefully experienced throughout their careers. I trained myself by going out there with zero capital, make the mistakes that had to be made and possess the required wounds that would serve me as invaluable, life long lessons.

DOĞUKAN KÜÇÜKŞAHİN

As a brand new MSc graduate of Technical University of Denmark (DTU), I am very much enthusiastic concerning this program of the Bosphorus Energy Club (BEC). This letter is therefore intended to express my interest.
Back in 2010, during my undergraduate study in mechanical engineering at Yildiz Technical University (YTU), with a couple friends of mine, we decided to take an action and pioneer the first student association about wind energy (SAWE) in Turkey, also known as Ruzgar Enerjisi Kulubu. It took us around six months to create a strategy for the association and gather new volunteers for the determined projects. With our awareness on climate change, our prior vision was “to contribute to the evolution towards a non-destructive, environmentally aware ‘culture’”. Following the establishment of SAWE, I was selected to be the first president of the association and also the project coordinator of one of our most important projects, the First Wind Powered
Car of Turkey.

I have been working at energy market since 2005. I began to work while studying in university. Because of the you can see who I am and what were the my career stations on this path, with the CV as attached, I would like to mention what I am doing now, what are my targets for coming years and why I am interested with this project is called Young Leaders In Energy.
I founded my company for passing to the service provider’s side at the market for offering my software project is called EPMpro. I can say it is the first start-up at Turkish energy market. With this project I took all energy market legislation to a web based software. All functions of EPMPro was prepared with considering companies’ operations process. I argue that energy legislation is not a stack of text just read. It must be analyzed. So this software offers an analyze platform for each user.

First of all, I would like tell why I really want to join in. I was graduated from Yildiz Technical University as Electrical Engineer however that was not just a regular Bachelor years. I was in Renewable Energy group which was coordinated from Prof. Mugdesem Tanrioven. Hopefully we got Wind and Solar Energy lecture from him. And I understood that why I want to be an Engineer. Electricity is a must in our “global” life which you always need and obtain from varied sources. In Turkey we need natural gas mostly to convert to Electricity to get warm in Winter and to have shower which is a really must. So from a eternal and free source why don’t be a new Tesla? We can have it for free like a municipility service “free wifi”.

SAMİ ERGALİMİDİ

Before I found this job, I was building smart homes with Schnieder Electric Technologies. Maybe you heard of KNX and BMS. This is good and quite expensive but it gives building a new phase. This technology also reduce power consumption so it is kind of a good technology. After my military service, I have decided to do something for the world. In these days we need more energy because everything we use consumes energy. if we continue with natural gas, wood or oil there is no good future waiting for us.

SEVENGÜL ERKILIÇ

I have heard about the Bosphorus Enegry Club’s Young Leaders Advisory Board at one of our World Petroleum Congress meetings. As you may see in my enclosed resume, I act as the General Secretary of Turkish Youth Committee at 22nd World Petroleum Congress. I believe some of my qualifications fit well with the Advisory Board requirements.
My current role in Turkish Petroleum as a human resources specialist has given me the opportunity to work on a competency development project for young professionals. With this project, we aim to prepare our young talent pool as the company’s next generation leaders and I find this mission quite fascinating. Working with senior level executives to find out what they need at the work place and conducting competency gap analysis on our work force is giving me deep insight about both what kind of competencies are needed in energy industry and what the current workforce has to offer. I believe I can transfer my experiences to the Advisory Board in an effort to create a work program for young corporate executives and graduates.

VEYSEL KARA

I am interested in contributing to the Bosphorus Energy Club as a member for the Young Leaders’ Advisory Board. Pursuing a career in the energy sector, and heading the Turkish Youth Committee of the 22nd World Petroleum Congress, I believe that with all the experience and background that I have, I will be a strong asset for the board. Moreover, the linkages between politics and history of the most conflictual areas in the world such as Middle East or Eastern Balkans and UN’s role in those regions as a legal actor have been a very interesting part of my studies.
